HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY FROM CHARRED OAKS INN!

Here in the Greater Lexington area we are blessed with some pretty spectacular scenery: beautiful rolling fields dotted with even more beautiful horses and fine looking cows; farmland planted with soybeans, tobacco, and corn; big white fluffy clouds shadowing miles and miles of black and white board fences; and stonewalls as far as the eye can see. Some of these farms and walls date back to the 1700s and as we drive around on these scenic routes like Old Frankfort Pike, Pisgah Pike, Ironworks Pike and Paris Pike to name a few, for some reason, I always recall the lyrics to a Rodgers and Hammerstein song, "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" ... somehow they just seem to fit.

There's a bright golden haze on the meadow There's a bright golden haze on the meadow The corn is as high as an elephant's eye And it looks like it's climbing clear up to the sky Oh, what a beautiful mornin' Oh, what a beautiful day I've got a beautiful feeling Everything's going my way All the cattle are standing like statues All the cattle are standing like statues They don't turn their heads as they see me ride by But a little brown maverick is winking her eye Oh, what a beautiful mornin' I've got a beautiful feeling Everything's going my way All the sounds of the earth are like music All the sounds of the earth are like music The breeze is so busy, it don't miss a tree And an old weeping willow is laughing at me Oh, what a beautiful mornin' Oh, what a beautiful day I've got a beautiful feeling Everything's going my way Oh, what a beautiful day

Enjoy your Fourth of July! May it be a beautiful one for you and yours!
