CHARRED OAKS INN PICKS FAVORITE FOR THE 147th RUN FOR THE ROSES



Three year old Essential Quality works out in the snow earlier this week at Churchill Downs.


Twenty three-year-old horses will leave the starting gate in the 2021 Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 1 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.


Essential Quality is a gray colt who was bred in Kentucky by Godolphin Stables, for which he races a s a homebred. He is by leading sire, Tapit, and is the 5-2 favorite to win the 2021 Kentucky Derby.


Post time for the 147th Run for the Roses is 6:57 p.m. ET. The Derby is the longest-running sports event in the United States and often referred to as "The Run for the Roses" because a lush blanket of 554 red roses is awarded to the winner. The distance is 1.25 miles long.


Besides betting on the horses, Derby fans are famous for drinking Mint Juleps, singing "My Old Kentucky Home" and wearing flamboyant outfits, especially the ladies and their hats.
