Charred Oaks Innkeepers, Pamela Byrne Riley and Richard B. Riley, reflect on words of wisdom on Labo
Finding a job you love is age-old advice. Confucius probably has the best longstanding quote about “do what you love.” His words, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life,” have been repeated throughout history. Or consider Warren Buffett’s words, “Take a job that you love.” And let’s not forget the prolific thoughts of Maya Angelou who said “…pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you and the advice of Steve Jobs who said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
After separate careers which spanned almost thirty years and took them away from each other regularly, they decided that they wanted to spend more time together. After researching what career options would allow them to do this, they happened on innkeeping and took the plunge. They have spent the last ten years in the innkeeping business – a business they have come to love! They established their current operation, Charred Oaks Inn, four years ago in October of 2015 just in time for Breeder’s Cup at Keeneland. Charred Oaks Inn, a Select Registry bed and breakfast, located 12 miles west of downtown Lexington, Kentucky, is their second bed and breakfast. (Prior to this they owned and operated Hodgdon Island Inn in Boothbay, Maine for six years).
Pamela and Richard love the innkeeping business for several reasons: they love sharing their beautiful home with their guests from all over the United States and around the world; they love sharing the treasures living in the Greater Lexington, Kentucky area has to offer and most importantly, they love interacting with their guests.
It is their labor of love and they invite you to become a member of the Charred Oaks Inn family!
