CHARRED OAKS INN NAMED A FINALIST IN THE SEVENTH ANNUAL BEST B&B BREAKFAST TOURNAMENT

What a week we have had! To be notified that our Lexington, Kentucky area Bed and Breakfast was one of the 16 finalists in this year's BEST B&B BREAKFAST TOURNAMENT was mind-blowing! (Especially since we were one of the hundreds of BedandBreakfast innkeepers from the United States and Canada who had, in the words of the organizers, "submitted their most loved, most original and most delectable breakfast creations").

The recipe I submitted was a new one I have been working on for a little while. At Charred Oaks Inn a freshly made-to-order breakfast is included with your stay. We work from a menu and guests can mix and match any of the items. We have choices of starters, a Breakfast Lite option and then we have the entrees - always a sweet and a savory choice. In addition, we offer eggs any way along with a variety of sides. One of our sides was a helping of creamy grits made with Irish butter and a dollop of fresh heavy cream. It is extremely popular so I thought I might develop an entree using grits, and after a little trial and error our winning entry was created: a baked grits souffle topped with Pancetta, seasoned diced tomatoes, a poached egg and freshly chopped herbs.

We have one rule at Charred Oaks Inn, and that is the moment you step through our door, you become family. Cooking breakfast is just one of the many ways we show our guests how much they are loved and appreciated.
